Patina of time | Exhibition of artistic jewelry by Urszula Wasilewska

A cross-section of works from 1993 to the present.

Urszula Wasilewska has been working as a goldsmith since 1986. She lives and works in Warsaw and has been a member of the Association of Goldsmiths and Jewelry Designers since 1998. Trained as a photographer, she considers designing and creating jewelry her life’s passion — one that, as she says herself, allows her to satisfy her own feminine vanity.

Her jewelry appears raw yet noble in its simplicity. It is defined by meticulous attention to detail, naturalistic forms, and inspirations drawn from history and ethnography. Her work can be seen as a tribute to nature.

Urszula Wasilewska has participated in over 30 solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in England, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Lithuania, and Germany. She has received awards twice. Her works are held in private collections and in the collection of the Goldsmithing Art Museum in Kazimierz Dolny.

“The stones I set in silver are a unique material for me, as they have captured time and timeless beauty within them. When creating my collections, with respect for nature, I adapt the setting to the soul of the stone I work with. This true soul is shaped by natural, often ‘earthy’ colors, angular and irregular forms, and unpolished protrusions. I am often drawn to stones that are atypical for jewelry — difficult to set, resistant to processing. They become a creative challenge and a source of inspiration. It is the stones that dictate the shape of the setting, the jewelry model, its purpose, and sometimes even its name, such as Old Lace, Bubbles on Water, or Blue Sins. Perhaps my earlier profession as a photographer taught me attention to detail and the ability to perceive unaltered truth as the only true value — not only artistic. Hence the naturalism of forms, references to historical and ethnographic sources, and the subtle emphasis on the diversity of colors hidden within layers of stone.”
