Curatorial text excerpt:
“Strange is this world,” sang Czesław Niemen. There is no doubt about that. But what is it really like? This is a question one could ask endlessly, and yet each of us creates it in our own way and perceives it individually. Looking at Adam Olczak-Lipman’s colourful works, one might assume that life is wonderful, carefree and light, although it is not entirely clear what they depict. Their meanings are hidden within… abstraction. Within an undefined world. Thus, we are presented with a kind of game. We are given clues in the form of colour, shapes and their absence, but the rest is left for us to discover.
Adam Olczak-Lipman is a graduate of the Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź (2014). He received his degree from the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Painting. He remains connected with Łódź, where he lives, creates and organises artistic projects. In his painting, he uses various media, often combining them – in the case of screen printing, he creates works on fabrics, including clothing. Between 2019 and 2022, he ran the MITO SITO clothing brand, producing T-shirts, sweatshirts and other functional objects featuring his original designs. The aim of the project was to bring the “art gallery” into public space.
Adam is also the founder and co-organiser of LAAF – Lodz Abstract Art Festival. The event takes the form of an exhibition of abstract art accompanied by music and dance performances, artistic performances, lectures, drag queen shows and tattoo events.
