Artist Week – Iwona Olszewska-Labich & Urszula Wasilewska

Iwona Olszewska-Labich creates artistic jewelry and works in abstract painting. In her intricate pieces, she combines the delicacy of craftsmanship with the intuitive expression of color. She draws inspiration from travel, nature, and emotions—from what is subtle, organic, and filled with inner light. In her work she values freedom, truth, and courage, treating each project as a story captured in form. She creates to move, inspire, and build bridges between the world of imagination and everyday life.

Urszula Wasilewska has been working in goldsmithing since 1986. She lives and works in Warsaw and has been a member of the Association of Goldsmiths’ Form Designers since 1998. By profession she is a photographic artist, but designing and creating jewelry is her life’s passion, which—as she says herself—allows her to satisfy her own feminine vanity.

Urszula Wasilewska’s jewelry appears raw yet noble in its simplicity. It is characterized by great attention to detail, naturalism of form, and historical and ethnographic sources of inspiration. It is a kind of “homage” to nature.

The artist has participated in over 30 solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad, including in England, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Lithuania, and Germany, and has been awarded twice. Her works are held in private collections as well as in the collection of the Goldsmithing Art Museum in Kazimierz Dolny.

“The stones I set in silver are a unique material for me, as they have captured time and timeless beauty within them. When creating my collections, with respect for nature, I adapt the setting to the soul of the stone I am working on. This true soul is formed by natural, often slightly ‘earthy’ colors—closer to the ground—angular, irregular shapes, and unpolished protrusions. Often, stones atypical for jewelry, difficult to set and resistant to any processing, become the focus of my interest. They turn into a kind of creative challenge and an inspiration for the imagination. It is they that impose the idea of the setting’s shape, the jewelry model, its purpose, and in some cases even the name, such as Old Laces, Bubbles on Water, or Blue Sins. Perhaps my earlier profession (photographic artist) taught me attention to detail and the ability to perceive unadulterated truth as the only value—not only an artistic one. Hence the naturalism of shapes and forms, reaching for historical and ethnographic sources, and subtly emphasizing the diversity of colors dormant within the layers of stone.”

Throughout the week, visitors will be able to meet the artists, learn about the secrets of their work, and purchase unique jewelry 🙂
